PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  • To identify the future needs of health educators, accreditors and regulators

Keynote

Dr. George Mejicano
"The Promise & the Perils of Collaboration"

Dr. Mejicano currently serves as the Associate Dean for Continuing Professional Development and is also the Director of the Office of Continuing Professional Development (OCPD) at the University of Wisconsin. Under his leadership, OCPD has twice been recognized for its creation and leadership of ground breaking initiatives that have set the standard for multiinstitution collaboration in continuing medical education. He is a sought after speaker who has given many national and international presentations related to continuing education. At present, he sits on the Board of Directors and is the incoming President of the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education.

Dr. Lesley Bainbridge
"Collaboration Best Practices"

Lesley Bainbridge is the Director, Interprofessional Education in the Faculty of Medicine and Associate Principal in the College of Health Disciplines at the University of British Columbia. Her areas of special interest are interprofessional health education (IPE), collaborative practice, leadership, evaluation of IPE, curriculum development related to IPE, interprofessional practice education and other areas related to IPE such as rural health, geriatrics and underserved populations. She holds a masters degree in education and an interdisciplinary doctoral degree with a focus on interprofessional health education.

Dr. Susan Brien
"Education Simulation"

Susan Brien assumed her current role of Associate Director, Office of Professional Affairs, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in December 2007. Her portfolio includes overseeing the new regional, national and international projects facilitating life's long learning professional development activities including team training, simulation , performance assessment tools , simulation accreditation and curricula integration. In addition Dr. Brien continues to practice neurosurgery in at CSSS Gatineau and is Chief of trauma for the region.

Dr. Kevin Eva
"Performance Assessment & Improvement & Self Assessments”

Dr. Eva is Editor & Chief for the journal Medical Education, Associate Professor and Director of Educational Research and Development in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia and Senior Scientist in the Centre for Health Education Scholarship, also at UBC. He received his PhD in Cognitive Psychology from McMaster University in 2001 and now maintains research interests that include the development, maintenance, and assessment of competence in health professionals, the selection of students, clinical reasoning strategies, and the role of self-regulation in professional practice.
