Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists are regulated health care professionals in Atlantic Canada. The minimum educational requirement to work as an occupational therapist is a master's degree in occupational therapy from an accredited university, completion of the certification exam, which is monitored by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists, plus 1000 hours of fieldwork.

Occupational therapists work across the spectrum of health care from hospitals to home care and long term care facilities to schools and clinics. Some are also self-employed.

This self-assessment readiness  tool is designed to help internationally-educated occupational therapists understand the Canadian occupational therapy profession. It describes what occupational therapists in Canada are expected to know and do. It outlines the competencies, or knowledge and skills, that occupational therapists must have to be ready to practice in a Canadian province or territory.
